The Durham Spine & Pain Institute is a purpose-built clinic in Ajax, Ontario, designed by Lebel & Bouliane to meet OHPIP Level 2 standards while delivering a restorative, patient-centered experience. Integrating specialized medical infrastructure—including fluoroscopy suites, C-arm imaging, autoclaves, and BAS-controlled HVAC systems—the clinic balances clinical precision with biophilic and acoustic strategies that enhance comfort and operational efficiency.

A warm palette of non-porous materials, zero-VOC epoxy floors, and preserved botanicals supports infection control without compromising visual warmth. The layout follows a spoke-and-wheel model for optimal clinical flow, minimizing blind spots and enabling real-time oversight from centralized reception and nursing stations. Curved forms, layered textures, and wellness-inspired detailing contribute to a calm, spa-like environment that eases the patient journey. As demand grows, a 224 m2 (2,400 sf) expansion will introduce more imaging suites, treatment spaces, and dedicated amenities, reinforcing the clinic’s role as a critical access point for advanced pain care in Ontario.
